I'm back again for a SECOND year of the One Badass Art Journal Workshop!

PanArt - Altered Clock!

Hello!

Today I'm going to be altering a alarm clock base. I started by gluing down some metal embellishments I just looked around my stash for some fun stuff -- tiny bottles, zipper pulls, a fan from an old computer part -- you name it and it's fair game. Glossy Accents is really tough and perfect for this. Once I had them glued down I set the base aside and started working on the background. 

For the background I fussy cut an image from 7 Dots Studio Fortune Teller "Soul" and the 7 Dots Studio Fortune Teller Word Stickers  and used matte medium to glue it to the background. I love all of the imagery in the Fortune Teller collection so much! 

I also embellished the background with a little bit of Art Alchemy Metallique Steampunk Copper, Art Alchemy Metallique light patina and some rust mica powder. 

To finish up the clock base, I also added layers of Art Alchemy Metallique Emerald Green and more of the Steampunk Copper. 

I just love my clock base! I kept the back removable so I could change out the treasures that I place within. This was such a fun project and makes for such an interesting decorative piece in my home. I hope you love the project and find inspiration to start your own!

Re-purposed Mixed Media Girl for Mixed Media Place

Hello, hello!

This project began as just a piece of cardboard! I had so much fun repurposing what some might consider as garbage into something pretty.

I removed some of the outer layer of the cardboard to reveal the bumps, and then I added a layer of gesso. From there, I added a layer of stamping with Prima’s “Dot Grunge” designed by Finnabair… and then sketched and painted a face. To add extra interest and texture to the painting I also utilized Prima Flowers, seed beads, a small piece of lace cut to size and Prima’s texture powder. I have really loved using the texture powder in my paintings lately; I love the extra layer of *special* it adds. To use it, I just painted on a layer of Art Alchemy acrylic paints. Then, while the paint was still dry, I also brushed on some of the texture powder. The powder blends right into the paint and dries beautifully.

Artistcellar Sacred Geo 2 "Trust" Journal Page

All week I have been enjoying the opportunity to be inspired by the Sacred Geometry 2 stencils! I have been incorporating them into my artwork at every chance. Sometimes I have been using them as the focal point of the piece and sometimes I tuck them into the background for added interest and texture.  For this journal spread, I wanted the stencil to have the feel of the moon!

To start the background, I used some Eucalyptus and Java walnut ink and I let it drip down the page haphazardly. Starting a journal page with drippy goodness seems to relieve the pressure that everything *must be perfect*. It doesn't have to be perfect! The worst thing that could happen? You have to tear the page out or cover it up with collage or gesso. Everything can be changed!

While letting the walnut ink dry, I grabbed another piece of paper and used a palette knife with some modeling paste on the "Seed of Life" stencil from the Sacred Geometry 2 stencil series. Once dry, I added color withgelatos and stickles glue. For the gelatos, I just blended them with my hands. 

I also grabbed another piece of paper, and used a Distress Ink stamp pad with the Creative Words Pocket Stencil set.

I attached both pieces - the Seed of Life stencil page, as well as "Trust" to the art journal  with glossy accents and then finished with some sketching,  Dylusions ink sprays, and Dye-Na-Flow in "Midnight Blue". 

Despite being rather simple, this is one of my favorite pages in my art journal because I allowed myself to work intuitively and just have creative fun with the pages. Give it a go, see how much fun you can have!

Artistcellar Design Team Announcement + Fun Tutorial with Sacred Hearts Series Stencils

Hello! My name is Cristin Stevenson, also known as ‘PanArt’. I am both excited and honored to be a part of the Artistcellar Design Team!

I am a mixed media artist, art journaler, jewelry creator, guitarist and coffee enthusiast.    I was initially shown a love for creating from my great grandmother... whenever I would go visit she always had a project planned for us and we always kept busy.  Many years later, I decided to take the leap and pursue art as a full-time venture. Since then, I have had many artist features locally and an opportunity to expand through online teaching. 

I find inspiration from music, nature, and color of all kinds. My favorite mediums include acrylics, watercolors, texture and crackle pastes. I also love to utilize stencils in my work for added interest, texture and magic!

In this project, I was instantly inspired by the Artistcellar Sacred Hearts Series Stencils!

I started by applying a wash of acrylic paint on vintage sheet music. Then, I used bubble wrap with carbon black acrylic paint and stamped the bottom left and top right corners as well as a border of carbon black around the entire page.

On a separate piece of paper (I used watercolor paper that had been prepped with black gesso) use modeling paste and a palette knife with the Artistcellar Sacred Heart series stencil. Simply scrape the modeling paste on the page through the stencil with the knife, then immediately rinse the stencil in warm water.

Once the modeling paste is dry, glue the stenciled image to the sheet music. Then, just add some stitches of thread around the corners, bottom of the painting. I liked the extra texture it added. I think it just makes it interesting!

Lastly, paint the stenciled image with a wash of acrylic paint and apply a thick layer of DecoArt Media Crackle Glaze. The thicker layer you add, the more “intense” the crackle effect will be. Finish  up with some white highlights.

Art is how I express myself, capture life’s moments, and release. My aim is to never be content, to never stop learning and never stop creating. I love having the opportunity to inspire others through art… because art truly is not an option.

Art Journal Layering with Metallic Lustre, Stencils and Sprays!

   It should be no secret that I love, love, looooove art journaling. I am always seeking new inspiration for my art journal as well... and I recently discovered something that is quickly becoming an integral part of my routine -- DecoArt Metallic Lustre. 

In case you are not familiar, Metallic Lustre is a water-based, non-toxic wax that buffs to a brilliant shine. I have been using it with stencils and I have been achieving fantastic results... like this:

So, first of all... you will need to gesso your surface.

Looooook at that texture!

Then apply a layer of Payne's Grey and Quinacridone Violet. The texture you see is from where I closed the pages while the paint was still wet. I really like the grungy distressed effect!

Once that base coat of paint has dried I added a bit of DecoArt Media Mister in carbon black to darken up some areas... and added some stenciling with sprays below. 

I talk about these misters often - and there's a reason for it! I really like that they are permanent once dry... unlike many of the other mists that I own. I can use these and not have to worry about them reacting with other layers.

They are a lot of fun to let drip too!

Let it dry... and then it's time for the Metallic Lustre. 

I used a doily/mandala stencil and Champagne Ice Metallic Lustre. To apply the wax, just use your finger and rub it across the stencil. 

It really makes for a beautiful layer.

Next, using a paintbrush and gold and white paint, I added some dots to the page.

All that was left was adding a fun quote. I stamped it out on a separate page, then attached the pieces with matte medium.
