PanArt - Altered Clock!

Hello!

Today I'm going to be altering a alarm clock base. I started by gluing down some metal embellishments I just looked around my stash for some fun stuff -- tiny bottles, zipper pulls, a fan from an old computer part -- you name it and it's fair game. Glossy Accents is really tough and perfect for this. Once I had them glued down I set the base aside and started working on the background. 

For the background I fussy cut an image from 7 Dots Studio Fortune Teller "Soul" and the 7 Dots Studio Fortune Teller Word Stickers  and used matte medium to glue it to the background. I love all of the imagery in the Fortune Teller collection so much! 

I also embellished the background with a little bit of Art Alchemy Metallique Steampunk Copper, Art Alchemy Metallique light patina and some rust mica powder. 

To finish up the clock base, I also added layers of Art Alchemy Metallique Emerald Green and more of the Steampunk Copper. 

I just love my clock base! I kept the back removable so I could change out the treasures that I place within. This was such a fun project and makes for such an interesting decorative piece in my home. I hope you love the project and find inspiration to start your own!

Creating Calm with Artistcellar Sacred Geometry 2 Stencils

When I started working on today’s project – the theme that kept coming up for me was "calm." I wanted to create calming artwork in a calming environment. For me, the way to begin is always lighting a bit of incense or white sage. Scent helps me start the calming process. Next, I grabbed the Sacred Geometry 2 stencils. When I look at them, I find them mesmerizing – and definitely calming!

This time, I decided to pick a color scheme before I started. Sometimes I do this so that I can work without having to worry much about what color goes with what, or what I should use where. Today, I’m going to use Titan Buff, Cobalt Teal, Magenta, Payne’s Grey, Dioxaxine Purple and of course – Fluorescent Pink!

I started with an Aquabord from Ampersand. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t gesso it, however, I had recently painted something on it that I didn’t like. So gesso first it is.

Next, I added a layer of Dye-Na-Flow in “Midnight Blue”. Before it dried, I also sprinkled some salt. 

Let it dry completely, then wipe the salt away. I think it leaves a cool texture to work with.

Next up, I used Sacred Geometry 2 stencils with DecoArt Media Mister in “Purple”. I’m not worried about adding more layers on top of this because the mister dries permanently. 

 

Once that dried completely, I brought in some more white gesso so I could have a nice surface to draw on, but I wanted that gesso to melt into the painting so I let it drip. 

Next, I sketched and then painted it with the colors listed above. I used DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics and Golden High Flow. Then, I finished it off with white highlights with my Uniball Signo UM-153 pen.

Gearing up!

Currently I'm working on getting things ready for another art adventure next month!
I'll announce it soon, but in the meantime here's a little bit of what I've been working on as of lately.

This morning, coffee in hand, I finished this one:

I tore apart an old watch, removed the inner "guts" of the piece and replaced it with miscellaneous watch pieces, parts and bling. Then I removed the sides, and added my own steampunky chains. It's a very metal-y piece with gold, silver, copper and bronze. 

After that, added some fun little charms to go along with it. 

This is a really, really fun piece and I had a lot of fun making it. But now, what should I name it?

Any ideas?

As a part of another art adventure yesterday, I completed a couple of inky pieces. A button tree and a mixed media flower.

On the table...

I've been busy creating today!

It's been awhile since I've made any new jewelry pieces, and since I'm gearing up for something next month, I figured now is a great time.

Introducing --- Found Objects & Toasted Lizard!:

"Found Objects" is an adjustable steampunk'd charm bracelet.

And....

Toasted Lizard is a steampunk'd locket style pendant on chain. The locket part opens up, and you could put a nice photo inside if you wish.

I was sifting through a very old (read: brown, crumbly pages and old book smell) book of children's poems. While sifting, the two works "toasted lizard" jumped off of the pages and it just seemed right. That's why it all happened! This one is an old, revamped pendant that I had lying around. I used a bit of black Golden High Flow paint to help bring a focal point to the steampunk pieces and parts.

So far, February has been pretty great.
